1. It’s hot
During the summer months Doha gets quite hot. If you plan on sightseeing during the day, make sure that you make suitable arrangements.
2. Dress the part
Qatar is an Islamic country and as such, there are certain expectations on dress codes for both Qataris and visitors. Qatari women wear abayas and men wear long sleeve, ankle length white thobes. The general rule for visitors is to dress modestly and not show too much skin. Men and women should cover their shoulders, upper arms and knees. This is especially important during the holy month of Ramadan. Beach wear and swimsuits should only be worn at hotel beaches or swimming pools.
3. The holy month of Ramadan
If you’ll be travelling to Qatar during Ramadan, you must know that there is no eating or drinking in public places from sunrise to sunset. Coffee shops and restaurants are also closed during the day, supermarkets are open.
4. Alcohol consumption
You are not allowed to bring any alcohol into the country, and you cannot buy alcohol in regular shops, restaurants or bars. If you would like to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, you can do so at hotel bars and restaurants.
