Most quotes for monthly car rental in Doha are not comparable, because most companies are quoting different things. One includes insurance. One does not. One caps your mileage at 200 km a day and charges for the rest. One adds a service fee at the end that was never mentioned at the counter.
This guide sets out what monthly car rental in Qatar actually costs, what a complete price should include, and how the monthly option compares to weekly hire and to a long-term lease. All figures are our own published rates.
How much does monthly car rental in Doha cost?
Monthly car rental in Doha starts from around QAR 125 a week for a small hatchback and rises to QAR 450 for a premium 4x4. The exact rate depends on the vehicle category and the length of your commitment — monthly and annual plans cost significantly less per day than a single week.

The rule that matters: the longer the commitment, the lower the effective daily rate. A month costs meaningfully less per day than a week, and an annual plan less again. If you already know you need a car for three months, say so when you book rather than renewing weekly.
What is included in a monthly car rental in Qatar?
A complete monthly car rental in Qatar should include comprehensive insurance, servicing and maintenance, accident repairs, a replacement vehicle while yours is off the road, unlimited mileage, and 24/7 roadside assistance. If a quote excludes any of these, it is not comparable to one that includes them.
Included in every United Car Rentals monthly rental:
- Comprehensive insurance - on-road cover, with personal accident benefits for driver and passengers
- Servicing and maintenance - first service at 1,000 km, then every 8,000 km
- Accident repairs
- A replacement vehicle while yours is in the workshop, matched to your original class wherever possible
- Unlimited mileage - no per-kilometre charge, anywhere in Qatar
- 24/7 roadside assistance in partnership with AAA Middle East, covering flat tyres, battery boosting, key-lock assistance and towing
- Tyres and wiper blades worn through normal use, replaced at no cost
Not included, stated plainly:
- Traffic fines, which remain the driver’s responsibility
- Tyre punctures and puncture damage
- Routine between-service checks — coolant, engine oil, tyre pressure
- Off-road use. Cover is for on-road driving only; dune bashing, beach driving and driving through water are excluded
- Personal belongings left in the vehicle
What deposit is required for monthly car rental in Doha?
A refundable security deposit of QAR 3,000 is required, either blocked on a credit card or paid in cash. It is renewed every 30 days for ongoing rentals and released within 14 to 21 days after the vehicle is returned and inspected.
If you do not have a credit card - a common situation for people who have just arrived in Qatar - the deposit can be paid in cash instead. The rest of the booking process is unchanged.
Is monthly car rental cheaper than weekly in Qatar?
Yes. The effective daily rate falls as the commitment lengthens, so a month costs less per day than four separate weeks, and an annual plan costs less again. Our minimum rental period is one week; daily hire is not offered.
| Your situation | Best plan |
| Visiting for 7–14 days | Weekly, extended as needed |
| Working in Qatar for 1–3 months | Monthly |
| Waiting on residency paperwork | Monthly |
| Settled, staying 6 months or more | Long-term lease |
| Business needing several vehicles | Long-term lease |
Can I rent a car in Doha monthly without a long-term contract?
Yes. Monthly car rental in Doha has a minimum period of just one week and requires no long-term leasing commitment. You extend month to month for as long as you need, and stop when you are finished. Vehicle upgrades, however, are only available with a long-term lease.
This is the reason monthly rental suits new arrivals in Qatar so well. Your first three months in a new country are unpredictable - the contract might change, the family might arrive later than planned, the commute might turn out to be nothing like you expected. A one-week minimum means you are never locked into a decision made before you had the information.
Monthly car rental while you wait for a Qatar driving licence
This is the situation we handle most often, and it deserves its own section.
- How long can you drive in Qatar on a foreign licence: Visitors holding a valid International Driving Permit may drive in Qatar for up to six months from the date of entry, provided they carry their original home country licence alongside it. Once you hold a Qatar ID and are a resident, you are generally expected to obtain a Qatar driving licence from the General Directorate of Traffic.
- How long does a Qatar licence take: If your home licence qualifies for direct conversion, a matter of weeks. If you need full driving school training, a theory test, and road and parking tests, plan realistically for two to four months. The minimum age for a light-vehicle licence in Qatar is 18.
- The honest planning assumption: unless you are certain you qualify for conversion, budget for three months without a Qatar licence, and arrange transport on that basis.
- Why buying a car in month one rarely works: vehicle registration is tied to your residency status, financing is difficult before your salary history is established, insurance is priced on a local driving record you do not yet have, and — most importantly — you do not yet know what car you actually need. Most people learn their real requirements in month four, not month one.
- A note on getting this wrong: Under Qatar’s Traffic Law No. 19 of 2007, driving without a valid licence carries a fine of QAR 10,000 to QAR 50,000, imprisonment of one month to three years, or both. It is a criminal offence, not an administrative one. If there is any ambiguity about your position, resolve it with the Traffic Department before you drive.
Monthly rental, long-term lease, or buying?
| Monthly rental | Long-term lease | Buying | |
| Available before your QID | Yes | Requires Qatari licence + QID | No |
| Upfront cost | QAR 3,000 refundable | Refundable deposit | Full price or down payment |
| Insurance | Included | Included | Your cost |
| Servicing and maintenance | Included | Included | Your cost |
| Replacement vehicle | Included | Included | None |
| Minimum commitment | One week | 6 or 10 months | Indefinite |
| Cost per month | Highest | Lowest | Variable, plus depreciation |
| Exit | Return the car | End of term | Sell it yourself |
The pattern reads cleanly off that table: rent monthly for months one to three while your paperwork is in progress; move to a long-term car lease once you know what you need; buy only if you are certain you are staying several years.

Which car should you choose for a monthly rental in Doha?
- Small Hatchback or Small Saloon - the right default for most people. Easy to park in Al Sadd, Najma and older districts; entirely adequate for Doha’s roads. From QAR 125.
- SUV 4x2 - sensible for families, school runs, or living further out in Al Wakra or Lusail. From QAR 195.
- Medium Saloon - worth it for long motorway commutes or regular guests. From QAR 240.
- SUV 4x4 — only if you genuinely plan on desert driving, and note that off-road use is not insured.
Two things people consistently underestimate: parking width in older Doha neighbourhoods, and time spent on Salwa Road. Both argue for something smaller than instinct suggests.
